Beneath the Waves Presents: The Global Connection

Join Beneath the Waves at the Wynwood Yard on November 2nd for a special outdoor screening of our in-house film series, The Global Connection, featuring commentary from filmmaker and BTW Digital Media Director Sami Kattan.

The Global Connection is a short documentary series of international expeditions hosted by young environmentalists and scientists. In each episode, the adventurers travel to a different location to document natural beauty and investigate a specific environmental issue. As the hosts delve deeper into the story, the fabric unravels to reveal how a seemingly local issue has much broader implications.

In this pilot episode, 'Little Island, Big Fish', filmmaker Sami Kattan journeys to Isla Holbox, Mexico to witness the largest gathering of whale sharks on the planet. While uncovering the tourist industry that surrounds this magnificent creature, he also uncovers the impacts this industry leaves behind that not all visitors may realize.

Doors will open at 8pm for the event and film screening will start at 8:30. The event is free and open to the public! After the 30 minute screening and commentary, enjoy the sights and sounds of The Yard with music provided by local DJ Natural Selection. Grab a drink at the Mortar & Pistil Bar - a portion of the evening's proceeds will go towards supporting Beneath The Waves mission to raise awareness regarding critical marine issues, foster the advancement of science, and promote the protection of our oceans.
